The process of performing a colonic a part of hydrotherapy is by introducing water in the rectum by the professional colon therapist. It is carried out to effect colon cleanse  by flushing out the contents of the clogged up colon.

Before performing the colonic on a patient the therapist records the history of the patient and carries out examination to assess the necessity of performing colonic.
After recording of health history and examination of the patient, the patient wears the gown only and lies on the treatment table with face up posture.

The therapist causes insertion of a speculum which is disposable into the anus opening. The speculum is attached to the disposable clear long plastic tube which has connection with colon hydrotherapy unit.

The hydrotherapy unit is filled with slightly warm purified water, which is made to flow in a slow manner in the colon. With the water there is contraction of the colon muscles termed as peristalsis, with the help of which the feces are pushed out through the plastic tube and released directly in the close water disposal system and are examined while these are moving out.

After finishing of the session the patient sits on the toilet stool for passing over left over fluid and feces.
